Chessminton is a new hydrid sport combining chess and badminton, i.e. merging the most popular mental sport on the globe with the world’s fastest and most athletic racket sport. Each Chessminton match consists of four phases: A 5 minutes Blitz chess game followed by 2 badminton games (up to 11 points) and concluded by a final Blitz chess game. The chess games are scored in the range of 11:0 to 11:9 depending on the winner’s time (the faster the winner wins, the higher the score, e.g. 11:0 if the winnner wins within 30 sec., and 11:9 if the winner wins using a time of more than 4 min. 30 sec.), the outcome of a match depends on the sum of the total scores of the four phases.
A series of three European Chessminton Championships (ECC) were now organized in this summer by the German Chessminton Federaton and the three clubs SSV Waghäusel, TV Tamm and SC Tamm: The Youth ECC on July 26, 2025 in Waghäusel, the Adult’s ECC on July 27, 2025 in Waghäusel, and the Junior’s & Senior’s ECC on Aug 2, 2025 in Tamm. These are the first continental tournaments in Chessminton in the history of this new hydrid sport.
Some of the ECC players have already played Chessminton in one of the German national tournaments held 2024, but for many ECC players, it was their first Chessminton tournament.

Thanks
Last, but not least, our sincere thanks go to all who have supported us for the three ECCs, especially the badminton clubs SSV Waghäusel and TV Tamm and the chess club SC Tamm as the three organizing clubs, Oliver-Sport for sponsoring the events in Waghäusel, the ChessSports Association (CSA) for providing travel expense funding for the players, the chess club SC Viernheim for providing the chess equipment, and the players’ platform Sportduell for general support.
Closing words
Many players have asked the question whether there will be a Chessminton world championship in the next years. Our goal is to organize a Chessminton world championship at the latest in 2027. Hopefully, Chessminton will spread and develop quickly on the globe until then😊
